Our Birding & Wildlife Reserve

Hacienda Jimenita Giant Hummingbird Reserve

Our Private Reserve is located inside our Hacienda Hotel Casa de Hacienda Jimenita. Our "Giant Hummingbird" Reserve has several ecological trails, Eucalyptus Forests, Native Plants, and majestic views of the Chiche River Canyon, the city of Quito, and the Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Ilinizas, Puntas volcanoes, among others.
The Reserve is surrounded by abundant nature between the town of Pifo and the Chiche River Canyon. There are two streams and two rivers that come down from the Antisana Volcano, which you can also see Condors. In 1994 there was a condor nest on the property and over time it has been losing its habitat, which is why it is now seen on occasion. However, this privileged site for birdwatchers or people who like birds, will be able to see between 30 and 40 species in one day. We have registered 90 species of birds among them are the Giant Hummingbird (Giant Hummingbird) that we have built a refuge for this species, Long-tailed Hummingbird (Black-tailed trainbearer), Falcon (Harris Hawk), Tangaras (Blue and Yellow Tanager), Blue -necked Tanager, Rusty Flowerpiercer, White-bellied Woodstar, Virmillion Flycatcher, Southern Yellow Grossbeak, among others. We have feeders for Tanagers and Woodpeckers.
